Egyptian Amb. hails full resumption of Russian flights to Egypt as ‘positive development’

CAIRO - 22 May 2021: Egyptian Ambassador to Russia Ehab Nasr described the recent full resumption of flights between Egypt and Russia as "a big and positive development.“ In TV statements to Extra News, Ambassador Nasr said that flights between both countries are considered the most important bridge between both peoples despite the coronavirus crisis. "We're still working to determine the number of flights," the diplomat said, noting that they are coordinating action with a Russian committee concerned with measures to counter Covid-19 pandemic. In his remarks, Nasr also tackled the ongoing cooperation between Cairo and Moscow to face the coronavirus crisis, particularly in terms of securing COVID vaccines. Last month, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed on resuming all flights between the two countries' airports including to the resorts of Sharm El-Sheikh and Hurghada. Sisi welcomed the step, hoping it pushes forward to further advancing bilateral relations between the two countries. The decision to resume flights to the Egyptian resorts ends a hiatus that has lasted since 2015 over a Russian plane crash over Sinai, which killed all 224 people onboard.
