Madbouly appoints new Secretary General for Supreme Council of Antiquities

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly issued a decision on Thursday assigning Mohamed Ismail Khaled to the position of Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities.

The government’s decision came due to Khaled’s long experience in the Supreme Council of Antiquities and his scientific and international skills in Egyptology and archaeology.

Khaled began his career as an inspector in the Pyramids Antiquities area.

He then rose to leadership positions in the council, where he held the positions of Director of the Technical Office of the Head of the Central Administration of Antiquities of Cairo and Giza, Director of the Scientific Research Department, Supervisor of the Scientific Publishing Department, and General Supervisor of the Permanent Committees for Foreign Missions Affairs.

He was also the general coordinator of the Pyramids Archaeological Plateau development project.

Khaled holds a PhD in ancient Egyptian antiquities from Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. He worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Egyptian Antiquities at the University of Würzburg in Germany, and headed the Egyptian-German mission to the pyramid of King Sahure in the archaeological area of Abusir.

He has made many important archaeological discoveries, the most recent being the discovery of a group of storerooms inside the Pyramid of Sahure.
