302 Filipinos to be deported; 150 barred from traveling due to pending criminal cases – ARAB TIMES – KUWAIT NEWS – Arab Times Kuwait News

KUWAIT CITY, May 30: Following the evacuation of a shelter for Filipino workers in the Al-Surra area, which housed 462 Filipinos, the Ministry of the Interior has made the decision to deport 302 Filipinos. The individuals were transferred to the shelter center in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh, under the Ministry of the Interior, where their information was verified. Subsequently, 232 of them were scheduled for deportation, while 150 Filipinos were detained at the center due to travel restrictions placed upon them.

The eviction process was carried out in coordination between the Ministry of Manpower and the Residency Affairs Investigations, with prior notification to the Philippine embassy, reports Al Rai. It was noted that the shelter center, which was a rented house by the embassy, was in violation of laws and regulations, serving as a refuge for domestic workers escaping from their sponsors.
