International flights up 82%, passengers 89%

Muscat – The number of international flights to and from Oman went up to 10,672 by the end of March 2022, a growth of 81.9 per cent over the same period in 2021. The total number of passengers (arriving, departing and transiting) also saw a record growth of 89 per cent to 1.74mn passengers till March 2022.

According to data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), international flights at Muscat International Airport rose by 74.4 per cent, while the number of international passengers (arrivals, departures and transfers) increased 79.1 per cent from 707,003 in March 2021 to 1.26mn passengers in March 2022.

Indian passengers topped the number of passengers (106,872) at Muscat International Airport, followed by Bangladeshi passengers (44,869), and Pakistani passengers (35,682) in Q1 2022.

NCSI statistics show that domestic flights from Muscat, Salalah, Sohar and Duqm airports increased 25.3 per cent year-on- year in Q1 2022 to 2,914.

International flights through Salalah Airport went up by 138.2 per cent, and domestic by 18.2 per cent. Sohar Airport saw 248 international flights.
