Oman to showcase tourism capabilities at ITB Berlin

Muscat – The sultanate will take part in the Berlin International Travel and Tourism Fair 2023 (ITB) starting on March 7.

ITB Berlin is the world’s largest tourism fair, bringing together countries, tourist destinations, tour operators, airlines, travel agents, booking agents and hotels.

Oman’s pavilion at the three-day event will showcase the tourism capabilities and sites that are unique to the country, in the presence of concerned entities and companies which are promoting the sultanate in cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT).

The fair will include several meetings between specialists in the Omani tourism sector and their counterparts abroad with the aim of promoting tourism exchange.

This edition of ITB Berlin is being held just as the tourism sector is beginning to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data for the year 2022 showed that the sultanate received about 2.9mn visitors by the end of December 2022, recording an increase of 348.2 per cent compared to the same period of 2021.

The data also showed that the total revenue of hotels in the sultanate in 2022 rose to RO186mn. The tourism sector represents a vital source of economic diversification to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country.
