Restored Taqah Castle to open on July 12

Dhofar – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has completed restoration and maintenance work of Taqah Castle.

The castle will reopen its doors to visitors on July 12 at an event held under the patronage of the Wali of the Wilayat of Taqah.

In an effort to preserve the castle’s unique characteristics and identity, MHT used traditional construction materials and ensured the conservation of all architectural elements without alterations. ‘The restoration process was carried out meticulously using manual equipment to avoid any damage to the building’s structure,’ the ministry stated.

Taqah Castle is a prominent tourist attraction not only in the wilayat of Taqah but the Governorate of Dhofar.

According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information, the number of visitors to Oman’s 51 castles and forts experienced a 71.2% increase between 2015 and 2019 to 426,525. Additionally, the sites now employ 110 workers.

To further enhance tourism and achieve the strategic goals of Oman Vision 2040, the ministry is actively engaging the private sector in managing historical sites across the sultanate.
