Muscat – Oman’s only suspension bridge, the 204m-long Khor Al Batah Bridge, is an iconic landmark in the wilayat of Sur providing picturesque view of the harbour and majestic dhows moored in the bay.

To exploit its tourism potential further, South Sharqiyah Governor’s Office has invited bidders to establish integrated tourism facilities on the mountain overlooking the khor.

In addition, part of the tender calls for holding a summer forum in the niyabat of Al Ashkhara. The deadline for submitting bids is February 2.

“The initiative aims to support domestic tourism, create recreational places for families, and stimulate economic activity,” said an official at the Governor’s Office.

Based on a Royal Directive, each governorate has been allocated RO20mn under the Governorates Development Programme for the current Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

Sur is one of the oldest ports not just in Oman, but also in the entire Arabian Gulf.

Opened in 2009, the bridge cut down the journey from Sur to Ayjah from 20 to just three minutes by road.
