Kazakhstan’s SCAT Airlines operates first flight to Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh since COVID-19 shutdown

Kazakhstan-based SCAT Airlines on Friday operated its first flight to Sharm El-Sheikh since Egypt resumed international flights in July, a statement by the civil aviation ministry read.

The flight arrived from Kazakhstan with 234 passengers on board, landing at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport, the statement read.

Tourists were received with a water salute and roses, the ministry said, and their airport exit procedures were facilitated. The ministry also said that precautionary measures, including social distancing, were maintained, to ensure the safety of visitors and employees.

Egypt reopened its international airspace on July 1 after three months of closure in the wake of the coronavirus.

The country has seen a decline in coronavirus cases since August.

A total of 154 new cases and 13 deaths were reported on Thursday.
