US official arrives in Egypt with aid for Gaza – Egypt Today

CAIRO - 5 December 2023: Samantha Power, Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), arrived at the international humanitarian assistance hub in El-Arish, Egypt. Her visit aims to meet with local officials and both Egyptian and international humanitarian organizations to expedite the delivery of critically needed assistance into Gaza.

 

Power accompanied a shipment of 36,000 pounds of food assistance and medical supplies, airlifted by the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) from Amman, Jordan to El-Arish, at the behest of USAID.

 

During her stay, Power will emphasize the United States' commitment to the protection of civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law. She will also stress the importance of ensuring that humanitarian supplies continue to cross into Gaza, maintaining and exceeding levels achieved during the recent humanitarian pause.

 

The United States is actively working to address the severe humanitarian needs in Gaza. This effort includes mobilizing over $100 million in additional humanitarian aid for civilians.
