Lebanon transport workers go on strike – Transport – 13/01/2022 – Kuwait News Agency

BEIRUT, Jan 13 (KUNA) -- Lebanon's transport workers commenced a general strike across the country on Thursday, protesting government reluctance to subsidize the sector amid uncontrollably surging fuel prices. Several main roads in the capital, together with roads linking Beirut and the country's northern and southern parts, have been closed since early morning, the Ministry of Interior said in a statement. However, army and security forces have taken tight measures in order to ensure a peaceful strike and smooth traffic nationwide. Meanwhile, schools and all public, private learning centers, universities and banks have been shut down due to the inability of students and employees to reach their destinations owing to the countrywide strike.
