Campaign launched to train community first responders

Muscat – The Ministry of Health (MoH) launched a campaign on Thursday to train 1,000 paramedics in its efforts to spread health awareness among community members.

A statement issued by MoH said, ‘The Directorate General of Health Services of Muscat Governorate has launched ‘1,000 Paramedics Campaign’, which aims to educate the community about first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in order to impart life-saving skills. It targets several groups, including mothers, children, teachers, workers, students and the Scouts.’

Additionally, the Directorate General of Health Services of Muscat Governorate – represented by its Training Department – launched an electronic training and educational platform called Athar, also on Thursday.

Samia al Balushi, head of Professional Development and Career Guidance Department in the directorate, informed that Athar will include educational programmes and training workshops. “These aim to improve the training process by providing digital tools that empower health workers and raise the quality of health services.”

She added, “The platform will develop and facilitate a mechanism of providing scholarships and study leave to health workers of the Directorate General of Health Services of Muscat Governorate.”

Athar includes educational video clips and features to alert employees about expiration of training licence and also allow them to take tests at home.
