MoSD signs 6 MoUs to train people with disabilities

Muscat – The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) inked six memoranda of understanding on Thursday to enhance training, rehabilitation and operational services for persons with disabilities.

The MoUs were signed with local authorities, under the patronage of H E Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, with the aim of providing supportive training and rehabilitation services and programmes for persons with disabilities.

H E Dr Laila also launched an on-the-job training programme named ‘Be With Us’ for the persons with disabilities.

Hamoud bin Mirdad al Shabibi, Director General of Persons with Disabilities Affairs in MoSD, said, “The MoUs aim to provide vocational training to persons with disabilities for their economic empowerment. The programme will continue until 2027 training 500 people, with the first batch providing opportunities to 100 of them.”

In its first year, the ‘Be With Us’ initiative will train 100 people, aged 18 to 40 years, with mild and moderate intellectual, visual and hearing disabilities, for 36 weeks, in jobs that are commensurate with their abilities in the private sector institutions.

The initiative further aims to highlight the role of government, private and civil agencies in activating the concept of partnership in social responsibility to support persons with disabilities, and
