Programme launched to train over 4,000 Omanis in digital sector



Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) and the Ministry of Labour have launched Makeen Advanced Digital Certificates Programme to train and qualify more than 4,000 Omanis in digital skills and to work as freelancers.

The programme aims to develop skills in e-marketing, data science, web development and digital product management.

Part of a national initiative to enhance digital competencies, Makeen will qualify national cadres with employable skills in communications and information technology, thereby enabling them to pursue rewarding livelihoods in Oman’s digital sector.

The programme was envisioned as part of MTCIT’s objectives of the 10th Five-Year Plan to qualify 10,000 Omanis for employment opportunities in the digital arena by 2025.

The initiative also seeks to raise competitiveness of Omani youth for jobs that require advanced digital skills, bridge the gap between graduates’ technical skills and needs of the labour market, and build strategic and sustainable partnerships with leading international institutions in the field of digital qualification and training.

On the sidelines of the launch of Makeen, MTCIT, Sultan Qaboos University and Ooredoo signed an agreement to conduct a national competition for drones enhanced with artificial intelligence.
