Qatar Airways Celebrates 10 Years of Oneworld Membership

Qatar Airways marks a decade as a member of the oneworld Alliance. The oneworld Alliance is among the world’s largest airline partnerships, with 13 member airlines, and the flag carrier of Qatar is the second largest within the alliance, just after American Airlines. So, what benefits has the alliance brought to the airline during ten years of membership?

Airline alliances offer numerous advantages to airlines. The primary benefit of alliance membership is the ability to provide customers with an expanded route network, offering more travel opportunities. It is no surprise that many renowned airlines worldwide are part of these global alliances.

In 1999, the oneworld Alliance took flight with its pioneering members, including American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas. Today, this global alliance boasts 13 member airlines. Today, the oneworld Alliance connects over 900 destinations across 170 territories, featuring access to numerous airport lounges.

Along the way, Qatar Airways has become the second-largest member in the alliance. The airline has expanded from 125 to 163 destinations and doubled its fleet from 125 to 259 aircraft.
