Treble for trainer Kobeissi as Al Shomos lands Al Hamla Cup

Al Shomos cruised to Al Hamla Cup victory which gave trainer Ahmed Kobeissi a treble in the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s (QREC) second race meeting at Al Rayyan Racecourse on Thursday.

Ridden by Faleh Bughanaim and owned by Mubarak bin Saeed Aljafai al-Naimi, the seven-year-old bay mare won by a length after an intense battle with Equinoxe in the QR100,000 feature race.

Last year’s winner Equinoxe was piloted to second place finish by Soufiane Saadi in the 1600m race for Local Thoroughbred Conditions, with Alberto Sanna leading Black Pearl to third.

Meanwhile, Abdulla bin Mohamed al-Attiya-owned Battash De Faust won the Purebred Arabian Conditions. It was a short-head victory for Battash De Faust in the penultimate race of the day.

The victory completed a double for jockey Jefferson Smith, which was also the second win of the day for Kobeissi, who also saw Saqr winning the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate.

Meanwhile, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s Al Shaman was victorious in the Thoroughbred Handicap (75-95) as Lukas Delozier rode the Rudy Nerbonne-trained to win in the 1600m race by 1¾ lengths over Al Mohalhal.
