[+] hundred per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), for a demonstration flight at the Dubai International Airport in Dubai, on January 30, 2023. The U. S. airline industry has set an ambitious goal to be net carbon neutral by 2050. To some this may seem like a long way off, but consider this is an industry worldwide that was built on using fossil fuels. Given the long lead time and risk to develop new aircraft, 2050 seems like it's right around the corner. The two most popular commercial planes in the world, the Boeing 737 family and the Airbus A320 family, first took to the skies 56 and 36 years ago, respectively. The newer models are of course more efficient than these first models, but the underlying engineering for both planes is decades old. Sustainable aircraft fuel, or SAF, is one encouraging development for a more sustainable airline future. SAF uses fossil fuel by-products or plant based sources to create fuel for existing aircraft engines. With enough SAF, world airlines could become almost immediately net carbon neutral because their energy needs
We live like it’s #EarthMonth all year long! From reducing plastic waste on board (hello, @boxedwater) to partnering with Shell to push sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) forward, we’re on a mission to lead our industry toward a more eco-conscious future.

The SAF #GrandChallenge aims to have the U.S. industry supply 3B gallons of sustainable aviation fuel annually by 2030 & 35 billion gallons by 2050. The Departments of @USDOT, @ENERGY and @USDA are collaborating. @USGAO recommends monitoring progress
✈️ Ever heard of sustainable aviation fuel?
@emirates recently completed a successful test flight using alternative fuel. Solutions like this are part of the global aviation industry's push toward greener fuel to meet carbon emission targets.
Apart from fueling war machinery, the most carbon-consuming area is the aviation industry. With the approval in June 2011, various airline industries have adopted biofuel as their primary fuel. The idea is to reduce the uptake of commercial oil.

Did you know that sustainable #aviation fuel contributes 80% more than conventional fuel to reducing emissions? The industry is moving toward a “book and claim” system similar to the renewable electricity sector, and some businesses, including BCG, are https://bcg.smh.re/2dq
“SAF is a positive development for the industry, but it’s not the silver bullet when it comes to climate change.” @hfw_law Partner James Jordan spoke to Global Sky Media on whether or not sustainable aviation fuel is really the way forward for the industry.https://globalsky.media/business-aviation/sustainable-business-aviation-needs-saf-and-more/
The drive to produce 100 million litres of green aviation fuel from sugarcane will only require about eight per cent of the current Queensland crop, well within the industry’s scope to seize the new opportunity.

Sustainable #aviationfuel is a promising alternative to traditional fuels - but how viable is it to phase in these fuels at a global scale? I believe the #aviationindustry shouldn't put all their eggs in one basket. Exploring other options is necessary:

The project is designed to boost efforts to begin large-scale SAF production — a goal that has consistently receded into the future.
Residents are being forced to leave their neighborhoods bc of excessive noise and fuel pollution. The aviation industry, failed local politicians, & @FAANews are devastating neighborhoods. A climate attorney has to take in the FAA & get these planes out of local neighborhoods!

There is no coherent plan for addressing the rising emissions from aviation. The UK recently *lowered* tax on domestic flights. Industry thinks plant-based oils will do the job but are we really going to devote precious land to keep people in the air?
