Japan supports the Organization for Social and Agricultural Development (OSAD) through the Installation of a Solar Panel System in the Water Pumping Facility in Mchaityhe Village

NNA - Japan will extend a grant to the Organization for Social and Agricultural Development (OSAD), to install a solar panel system in the water pumping facility in Mchaityhe/Baalbek-Hermel, through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Program (GGP). On November 23 2022, Ambassador OKUBO Takeshi signed a grant contract with Dr. Hanna EL Khoury, President of OSAD.

Mchaityhe is one of the villages that have been severely affected by the deteriorating situation in Lebanon, and is suffering from water scarcity due to the chronic power outages affecting the operation of its water pumping facility, forcing many farmers to quit agriculture. To tackle this challenge, Japan has decided to support OSAD's initiative, which will install a solar panel system in the water pumping facility. This grant will increase the volume of irrigation water, enabling more than 700 farmers to continue their agricultural activities and improve their livelihoods.

At the signing ceremony, Ambassador OKUBO stressed the agricultural potential in the region, hoping that the renewable energy would contribute to the development of the sector. From their side, OSAD thanked Japan for its support and reiterated the urgent needs and importance of this project.
