G7 Summit ‘Light And Fluffy’ Climate Plan Falls Short, Disappointing Experts

Share to Linkedin The G7 summit ended Sunday, and in the wake of the meeting of seven of the world's richest nations, it is clear that climate and environmental observers are far from impressed by what the leaders achieved. In an almost 14, 000-word communiqué released Sunday, the leaders laid out the items they had agreed on. The emphasis was on the coronavirus pandemic, with leaders pledging 870 million vaccine doses to the developing world, with half of that to be provided by the end of the year. Yet in the face of a growing climate emergency, the statement was light on details about how the rich nations would curb their greenhouse gas emissions, or help other countries to curb theirs. The leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the U. K. and the U. S. did agree to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030.
