Sudanese Sovereign Council Head announce state of emergency, dissolves government

CAIRO – 25 October 2021: Head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council, Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announce, Monday the state of emergency all over the country. In a televised statement, Burhan announce the dissolution of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council along with the government. He added that some articles of the constitutional document for the transitional period in Sudan will be suspended; however, ‘they will remain committed to the 2020 Juba Peace Agreement” Burhan said that some of the political forces incited to chaos, violence and started to fight amongst each other which threats Sudan’s security. He noted that all these ‘chaos’ lead them to take these announced decisions. “Will are still committed to the currant transitional process until handing over the authority to a new elected government” Burhan said. He also explained that a ‘a temporary government of competencies will take responsibly until the upcoming elections 2023’. Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit expressed earlier Monday deep concern about the developments in Sudan.
