This Tax Hike Could Put Small Breweries Out Of Business

One of the most delightful examples of America's entrepreneurial energy and creativity has been the boom in microbreweries, distilleries and wineries.

Thousands of small brewers have turned the U.S. from a beer backwater to the most dynamic, inventive and finest source of suds in the world.

But this segment of What's Ahead urgently warns that a big, impending tax increase imperils this exciting industry's existence. The 2017 tax cut paired back excise taxes on the products of small breweries and their wine and liquor cousins. The reduction, however, was temporary and expires at the end of the year.

There is widespread bipartisan support to renew these cuts, but Congress hasn't gotten around to doing it, even though these thousands of businesses are on the threshold of insolvency.
