A year of sustainability: Bayara’s solar project – MEP MiddleEast

In March 2021, Gyma Food Industries – Bayara, the leading manufacturer of nuts, dried fruits and spices across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), will celebrate its first year of solar powered operations at its main facility.

The solar project, enabled by Bayara's partnership with Total, through its affiliate Total Solar Distributed Generation (DG) Middle East, has successfully covered 73% of the nut and spice company's annual energy needs with renewable and sustainable energy.

The solar solution, provided by Total Solar DG Middle East, included the installation of more than 3,700 photovoltaic (PV) panels on the rooftop of Bayara's main production facility in Dubai Investments Park (DIP).

This project, which spans nearly 7,000m2, has allowed Bayara to reduce an estimated 1,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions this year—an effort equivalent to planting over 25,000 trees.

For further sustainability measures at Bayara, Total Solar DG Middle East installed an Electric Vehicle (EV) charger to power Bayara's vehicles with solar energy.

The CEO at Gyma Food Industries (Bayara), Jean-Marc Lourau, said: “Total Solar DG Middle East is the leading player in renewable energies and is a major global player in providing customised photovoltaic solutions. We firmly believe that Total Solar DG Middle East is the
