Brazilians Asked to Stop Using Elevators, Take Cold Showers to Save Energy Amid Drought

Reservoirs in a drought-stricken Brazil, which is suffering its worst water and energy crisis in decades, are running low, threatening to turn off the lights in a country where almost two-thirds of power comes from hydroelectric generation.

Things are so bad, President Jair Bolsonaro has resorted to pleading for assistance, asking on September 23 for Brazilians to stop using elevators when possible and to take "much healthier" cold showers.

"Help us," Bolsonaro begged on his weekly Facebook broadcast.
