Fossil energy production forecasts still out of line with climate targets: report – Roya News English

The United Nations Environment Program said in a report published on Wednesday that plans to produce coal, oil and gas are largely inconsistent with the goals of the Paris Agreement, despite pledges to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The climate agreement signed in 2015 in Paris aims to keep warming well below 2 degrees Celsius than it was in the pre-industrial era, and if possible, to be limited to +1.5 degrees Celsius. One of the most important elements in achieving emissions reduction is eliminating dependence on polluting fossil fuels.

Two weeks before COP26, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), in a report prepared in collaboration with other research institutes, lamented that governments' production plans in this sector were still "dangerously far" from the Paris targets.
