Editor’s Letter: What does 2022 hold for the construction sector? – Construction Week Online

After a strenuous year, it’s exciting to look ahead to a new year with a new outlook for the construction sector, which has made tremendous progress since the 2020 downturn.

However, problems continue to pirouette around low labour supply, the liquidity crisis, cost inefficiencies, and delayed payments. Despite these pre-existing concerns, the industry has clearly shown indications of revival and has grown from strength to strength. It appears to be well-positioned to capitalise on growth opportunities in 2022, which should be another rewarding — but challenging — year.

As we move into the second year of recovery, I am reminded of what Raouf Ghali, CEO of Hill International, said during a recent conversation. “The last quarter of 2021 was hectic with rigorous construction activities in the Middle East, particularly in Egypt, KSA, and the UAE. Moving into 2022, I see a continuation of these activities with many projects going beyond the bidding stage and into the design and construction phase, giving the sector a lot more comfort.”
