Dubai: RTA announces Dhs700m upgrade to Al Khail Road



Image: RTA The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a Dhs700m contract for a major upgrade to Al Khail Road, a key traffic corridor in the city. Mattar Al Tayer, director general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said, “Al Khail Road Improvement Project stands out among the strategic projects aimed to enhance the capacity of roads that run parallel to and support Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. Al Khail Road is one of Dubai’s key traffic corridors stretching from Business Bay crossing to its junction with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, encompassing six lanes in each direction.” The project aims to improve traffic flow, and reduce congestion. The project will see the construction of  3,300 metres of bridges, including seven new bridges at strategic locations across the road. Road improvements over 6,820 metres, will include widening lanes, enhancing intersections, and upgrading surface roads. The project is expected to accommodate an additional 19,600 vehicles per hour and contribute to a 30 per cent reduction in travel times for motorists.
