Is COVID-19 back? There is no need to panic



Muscat – Health experts in Oman have advised the public to take precautions against COVID-19, including getting vaccinated and wearing masks, as many countries remain on alert for the potential new variants that could emerge from the wave of infections sweeping China.

According to an AFP report, travellers from China now face restrictions in more than a dozen countries as concern grows over the surge in COVID-19 cases in that country.

Qatar is the latest country – the first in the region – to demand negative coronavirus test reports for travellers from China before their arrival.

Dr K P Raman, chairman and cardiologist, Al Hayat International Hospital, said, “A new wave of COVID-19 is anticipated. But fortunately, it is believed to be not as serious as the Delta variant, though the risk of spread may be more.”

The chances of fatalities and serious infections cannot be totally ignored either.

“There are going to be some ICU admissions, some deaths. Most of them will be in people with comorbidities, and those whose immunity is compromised,” he added.
